I was hired in 1996 by a Mexican
corporation named Turística Baja Cabo. TBC owned Margaritaville Restaurant , La
Concha Beach Club, Cabo Real Golf Resort Club House, and The Wave Night Club.
My position was Director of Sales. My responsibilities included Marketing,
Positioning and Segments of Market. I also supervised the Banquet Manager. With
good strategy and the beauty of these 4 establishments, we achieved great
sales goals with local DMC’s and Incentive Companies in the US and Canada.
In regards to weddings, in January of
1997, my first bride contacted me in person to plan her wedding at La Concha
Beach Club. I kindly welcomed the bride and explained that we were able to host
her wedding providing the location and all catering services. In regards to any
wedding services, logistics and American traditions, she had to hire an
external wedding planner since we were inexperienced. Since the only local
wedding company in Cabo was booked, she needed my help. She suggested that with
my cooperation, patience, and ambition we would be able to coordinate her
wedding. The wedding took place 6 months after our first contact. My first
wedding was July 11th, 1997. Soon, some other couples started to consider La
Concha Beach Club as their wedding venue. By the year of 2000, La Concha Beach
Club was considered the hottest wedding venue in all Cabo. Since the beginning,
it was extremely important for me to learn more about the American wedding
culture. I wanted to provide professional services to all of my clients. Even
though I was the Sales Director of the company, the wedding planning and
coordination became part of my responsibility. No one in the company was willing
to do any wedding planning.
In February of 2000, I terminated my
employment with Turística Baja Cabo in order to become an independent wedding
planner. I started my own venture Perfect Weddings by Sergio. At that
time, resorts had no wedding services whatsoever. This gave me the
opportunity to work with 5 star resorts and wedding venues. I teamed up with
catering services provided by five star resorts in conjunction with my own
wedding planning abilities. During this time, I had the opportunity to work with
high end resorts and lavish budgets. Locations included the One and Only
Palmilla, private ocean front villas, and all inclusive resorts were part of
our clientle.By 2005 Perfect Weddings by Sergio needed to release some wedding
venues in order to keep the premiere locations. For example, we became more
specialized in Jewish and Persian weddings. These weddings require an intense
amount of attention to detail, time, and knowledge.
In 2007, I received an attractive offer from Pacific
Monarch Resorts, to work exclusively for Cabo Azul Resort, San José Del Cabo. I
signed a three year contract with Pacific Cabo Azul.. During the
first months, efforts were to simply build the wedding department. This
included catering kits, wedding planning guides, procedures and policies. With
the combination of our hard work and the beauty of the resort, we over achieved
in sales and budgets. In 2009 during the United States declining economy, our
sales reached a total of $2,850,000.00 USD. The resort was only open since October
2008. The end of my services to Pacific Monarch Resorts owners of Cabo Azul was
February 2011. Today, Cabo Azul Resort is one of the hottest wedding resorts in
Los Cabos. Since February 2011, I exclusively coordinate weddings for friends
of previous clients, specific high end resorts, and exclusive wedding venues.
Also, during this time, I have become a wedding consultant, which entails
helping resorts on all wedding services. I also participate in the training
course from Beverly Clark Enterprises which certifies wedding planners.
